From July 21 to July 30, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo perform on stage at the Salle Garnier Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
Every night at 20h, from 21 to 24 July, two shows not to miss: “The Child and the Spells” created choreographed by Jeroen Verbruggen and “Kiss of the Fairy” created choreographed by Vladimir Varnava. Talks sessions with choreographers are held on Friday 22 and Saturday, July 23 at 18:45 and will be led by Laura Capelle, dance critic for the Financial Times. Similarly, from 28 to 30 July at 20h, Jean-Christophe Maillot revisits the landmark Shakespeare “Romeo and Juliet”.
A few words about the choreographers:
J-C Maillot is the current director-choreographer of the Monte Carlo Ballet appointed by the Princess of Hanover in 1993. From 1977 to 1982 he was a soloist at the Hamburg Ballet. In 1983, he became director and choreographer of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Tours. Since he created almost 30 ballets including “Towards a wise country” in 1995, “Romeo and Juliet” in 1996, “The Dream” in 2005 and many others whose fame is worldwide. It invites choreographers to create for the Company performs choreographic movies and received numerous awards for his work including the title of Chevalier in the Order of St. Charles by HSH Prince Albert II in 2005 and three Golden Masks ” the Taming of the Shrew “in 2015.
J. Verbruggen is a Belgian choreographer and dancer. In 2004 he joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo under the direction of J-C Maillot where he played major roles such as “Romeo” in “Romeo and Juliet”, “The Prince” in “Cinderella,” “Puck” in “The Dream ” and many others. Then he choreographed “Jack (L) in the box” for the Monaco Forum in 2012, “Kill Bambi” for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo in 2013, “Arithmophobia” 2014 “Nutcracker” for the Ballet du Grand Théâtre Geneva, 2015 “True & False Unicorn” and in 2016 for the 30 years of Monte Carlo Ballet, “the Child and the Spells”.
V. Varnava is a young Russian choreographer 27 years. Rising star of the dance world with his unique choreographic vision, he has already won two gold masks.
