Beaten in the first leg in Turkey (2-1), AS Monaco had an obligation to win last night at the Stade Louis II in order to qualify.
Mission accomplished for the Monegasques thanks to a brace of Valere Germain and a penalty of Radamel Falcao. But it was not a cakewalk.
You should not be late for the game from the beginning of the meeting, the Monegasques have the intensity and were rewarded in the third minute. Well served by Falcao, Germain introduced himself alone with the Turkish porter and cheated with a shot from outside the area. This goal will only suffice to Monaco to qualify. Fifteen minutes later Dirar hit by Kaldirim, earned a penalty for Monaco. It is the captain who decided to shoot it, Falcao has not lost his mind and took Taskiran against the foot. This allowed Monaco to make the break. A very good first period from the Monegasque until Radamel Falcao shot in the thigh had to leave his teammates just before the break. The Colombian striker was replaced by Guido Carrillo.
In the second half, Monaco played lower, more defensive, leaving the ball to Fenerbahçe. The Turks have come logically to reduce the score after a cross bar in the 50th minute, the 53th Emenike reduced the score on a goal still in position offside. Battered since the reduction of the score, Monaco has still managed to score the third goal, by Valere Germain, which offer the double. Following a cross from Benjamin Mendy, Nabil Dirar made a beautiful pass from the head to Germain, who volleyed. Late in the game Turks flocked to the goal but Subasic resisted and Monaco kept their advance.
